James (Jim) Lowell Foree Jr, age 72, of Hoschton, GA, passed away on January 20, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 25, 1953, in Güntersleben, Germany, Jim was the son of James Sr and Erna. He was known most for how he cared for others, a quality he embodied throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, Jim served in the Army from 1972-1979. He was based in Germany , which brought him back to his roots. Jim graduated from Troy University with a master's degree and went on to build a career as an air traffic controller for the FAA and Project Manager for Mead, where he eventually retired.
Outside of his professional life, Jim cherished time with family and friends. He had a passion for Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Corvettes, Alabama Football, crime shows, and World War I & II history. Jim often spent his free time in Helen, GA, enjoying bratwurst and sauerkraut, travelling around the world, and fishing with friends and family. Throughout his time in the church, Jim served as a Deacon and youth director. Those who knew him spoke of his ability to make others laugh and provide Christ-centered guidance. Through his warmth and presence, he created countless memories that will be held close to all who were fortunate to know him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon Denise Foree, children, Laura VanOssenbruggen (Max), Justin Reames (Alice), and Erika Thomas, siblings, Estelle Lewis (Larry), Kathy Teel, Robert Foree (Judy), and Sandy Arwood, grandchildren, Kira VanOssenbruggen, Maximiliaan James VanOssenbruggen, and Savannah Thomas, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A service honoring Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Lawson Funeral Home in Hoschton, GA, with visitation from 1:00-3:00 pm and a service to follow. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by him are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any veterans' organization to honor Jim's service to our nation.
Jim's generosity, spirit, and love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
