Jay Andrew Hausmann

Jay Andrew Hausmann, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 24, 1968, Jay lived a life marked by resilience, adventure, and an unmistakable spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

As a young adult, Jay became the first recipient of a cornea transplant at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Through the gift of organ donation, his vision improved and allowed him to continue pursuing the sports he loved. Although he could no longer play catcher in baseball, his passion for wrestling and football flourished.

Jay graduated from Brookwood High School and later attended the University of Georgia in Athens. After college, he purchased his first home in Snellville, Georgia and began his career at Star Manufacturing in electrical design, working within the video gaming industry.

His professional path later shifted toward restoration and general contracting, where he discovered his true calling. Jay was highly skilled in operating heavy equipment and held numerous certifications in electrical, hazmat, and safety practices. His work with TRC/Banks Environmental Technologies, BELFOR USA, and Interstate Restoration Group took him across the country and around the world. He contributed to major restoration and construction projects, including work on the World Trade Center. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel to Germany, Venezuela, Israel, where he even floated in the Dead Sea.

Outside of work, Jay found joy in the outdoors and cherished time spent at hunting camp with lifelong friends from his wrestling & football days. He was happiest surrounded by camaraderie, laughter, and the traditions he held dear. At home, he could always be found watching football, cheering for his favorite teams: the Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Later in life, Jay moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he continued working as a general contractor before settling in Jackson County, Georgia.

Jay will be remembered for his wild spirit, his unwavering love of football, and his deep devotion to family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, countless hats, and fond memories shared by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Diane R. Hausmann of Okeechobee, Florida; his grandmother Marye Carpenter, Thomaston, Georgia; his grandfather George Hausmann of New Jersey: his grandparents Julia and Edward C. Pankowski, of Wilmington, Delaware; his uncle Allan Pankowski of Wilmington, Delaware; his uncle Steve Bennett of Wilmington, Delaware; his aunt Bernice Whiteside of Irmo, South Carolina; and his cousin Rhett Whiteside of Irmo South Carolina.

Jay is survived by his mother, Judith P. Hausmann of Hoschton, Georgia; his father, John A. Hausmann of Okeechobee, Florida; his sister, Julie A. Hausmann of Weston, Florida; his aunt Virginia L. Bennett of Wilmington Delaware; his uncle Edward Pankowski of Wilmington, Delaware; and his cousin Brandon Whiteside of Lake Norman, North Carolina; his beloved golden retriever “Graham”.

No memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Potter’s House in Jefferson, Georgia.
