Mary Earnestine Stephens, a cherished member of the community, was born on December 9, 1952, in Habersham, GA. She peacefully departed from this world on January 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family and friends.
Earnestine was a devoted wife to her husband, Billy Ray Stephens, and together they shared many joyful years filled with support and partnership. Her nurturing spirit was evident in every aspect of her life. She took immense joy in caring for her family and was always eager to assist her husband with his side jobs, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to their shared life.
Beyond her family commitments, Earnestine had many hobbies that enriched her life. She was an avid cook, often preparing delicious meals that brought everyone together. Her artistic side flourished through painting, where she expressed her creativity and passion. Her love for her dogs, Bella and Gabbi, was a testament to her compassionate nature and her ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Earnestine's family includes her loving daughter, Billie Jo Jenkins, and son-in-law Calvin of Flowery Branch. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Simmemon of Gainesville, and her sisters: Lurline Reed and husband Randy of Oakwood, Marie Jones of Cumming, Dianne Padilla and husband Robert of Dahlonega, and Deborah Anderson and husband Jimmy. She took great pride in her role as a grandmother to her beloved grandson, Michael Nathan Stephens, and her family extends to a host of other relatives who will dearly miss her.
Though her presence will no longer be with us, Earnestine is preceded in death by her father, Ernest Simmemon , her mother, Pauline N. Tanner, and her son, Joshua Adam Stephens. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Simmemon & Doug Forester, and Winford Simmemon.
A visitation to honor Earnestine Stephens will be held on February 1, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Lawson Funeral Home, located at 4532 Highway 53, Hoschton, GA 30548.
In her passing, Mary leaves behind a legacy that reflects her deep love for family and her warm spirit. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
