Peter James Wedel , age 62, Hoschton, GA passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at his home after a long battle with brain cancer. Mr. Wedel was born in Memphis, TN on September 17, 1953. He attended grade school and middle school in Bristol, TN. He attended Castle Heights Military School in Lebanon, TN and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in 1975. Mr. Wedel was self employed, L&D Associates as a Manufacturer’s Representative. He and his wife of 30 years of marriage, traveled the world scuba diving together which was one of his passionate hobbies. They traveled to Bali, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cozumel, Curacao, Destin, Florida Keys, LaPaz, Palau, Thailand and Indonesia. A highlight of one of their trips to Malaysia was a hike to Lowe’s Peak the Summit of Mount Kinabalu, 13,438 feet. He also enjoyed playing golf and played at many venues and had the opportunity to attend the practice rounds of the Augusta Master’s. Survivors include his wife Joan Wedel of Hoschton; mother Vergie Wedel of Bristol, TN; son Ronald Forkey and fiancé Kim Moss of Villa Rica; daughter Tara Golden and husband Roy of Whitesburg; granddaughter Amber Newman of Villa Rica; brother Mark Wedel and wife Cheryl; sister Sheri Wedel; aunt Linda Thompson and husband Brad; nieces Erica Little and Sally Wedel all of Bristol, TN; and nephew Brandon Ellison of Knoxville, TN. A sincere thank you to Dr. Christina Saurel and staff at the Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic of Braselton and Northeast Georgia Hospice for the kindness shown during and after treatment. He is preceded in death by his father Peter John Wedel who passed away in 2003. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Cory Sexton will be officiating. The family will receive friends 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the funeral home.
