Shirley Joan Chalmers, age 89, of Hoschton, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025.
Shirley was a natural caregiver and devoted friend. Known as the family’s unofficial nurse, she lovingly cared for many relatives through illness and hardship. She was a true example of Christian hospitality, and her door was always open to anyone in need. Shirley loved her family deeply and took great delight in the laughter and antics of her great-grandbabies.
Shirley had two great loves in her life — her first husband, Charles Ray, who passed away in 2004, and her second husband, Jack Chalmers, who passed away last year. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Arnold and Remus Chambers, and by two baby granddaughters, Jennifer and Karen.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Hairston; daughter, Vicki Tucker; son, Gary (Jeri) Ray; grandchildren Alex (Emily) Tucker, Corbin (Daniel) Ray, Katie (Eli) Hickey, and Camden (Abi) Ray; and great-grandchildren Ezra Hickey and Josephine Tucker.
Visitation will be held at Lawson Funeral Home in Hoschton on Wednesday, October 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge.
